Sering kali, kita ingin mengikuti Yesus tanpa salib. Kita ingin berkat-Nya, tetapi menolak penderitaan. Kita ingin kemuliaan, tetapi enggan berkorban. Tetapi Yesus berkata dengan tegas: “Barangsiapa kehilangan nyawanya karena Aku, ia akan menyelamatkannya” (Luk 9:24).
